Certification Description

To be eligible to be trained as a Red Cross instructor, the candidate must: 1) Be at least 17 years of age (16 years of age for Water Safety instructors and Lay Responder First Aid and CPR/AED instructors) on or before the last scheduled session of the instructor specialty course. 2) Successfully complete the Fundamentals of Instructor Training course or have another current American Red Cross instructor authorization. 3) Pass any required pre-course written examinations with a minimum grade of 80 percent. 4) Successfully perform all of the skills in the pre-course session.
To be certified and initially authorized as an instructor, the participant must: 1) Actively participate in all course sessions. 2) Successfully complete the required practice teaching requirements. 3) Pass the final written examination with a minimum grade of 80 percent.
Instructor courses include (check you local chapter for course availability): Fundamentals of Instructor Training (prerequisite to all instructor courses), Emergency Response Instructor, Lay Responder First Aid and CPR/AED Instructor, Lifeguarding, Spanish Language First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, Babysitter’s Training Instructor, Nurse Assistant Training Instructor, and HIV/AIDS Instructor.
