Certification Name : Neural Repair and Rehabilitation Certification
Certification ID & Type: 8666 – C – Specialty
Certification Description
Neurorehabilitation is the process of restoration of function for persons with disorders of the nervous system. This process involves strategies aimed at reducing impairments and disabilities, and ultimately improving participation and quality of life for persons with neurological disorders. Areas of functioning include mobility, activities of daily living, and cognitive and communicative abilities. Neurorehabilitative treatments promote restoration and reorganization of damage in the nervous system, and facilitate compensatory and adaptive strategies to improve functioning. The practice of rehabilitation involves a team process, highly dependent on the interaction of multiple disciplines and treatment agents. The patient, his/her family, caretakers and other members of their social network are integral members of the treatment team effort. Neurorehabilitation subspecialists have a role to play in improving recovery and function throughout the continuum of care, from the ICU to the community.
